This Privacy Policy explains how Apps You Need, LLC (“Company”, “we”, “us” or “our”) collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you visit our website at www.appsyouneed.com (the “Website”) or use any of our mobile or desktop applications that link to this policy (each an “App”, and together with the Website, the “Services”). It also explains the choices and rights you have.

The Apps covered by this policy are: PepperBox™, Kidlatta™, Kid Chart™, Kid Turns™, Kid Banking™ and Kid Bank™, and any other Apps published by Company on the Apple App Store and Google Play.

This policy applies to users in the United States, Canada, the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. Section 11 contains additional information for each of those regions. Where a regional section gives you more rights or protection, that section applies to you.

1. About this policy

Who is responsible for your information

Apps You Need, LLC, based in Rocky River, OH, United States, is responsible for your personal information. Under EU and UK data protection law, we are the “controller” of your personal information. You can contact us using the details in Section 13.

Personal information

In this policy, “Personal Information” means any information that identifies, relates to, describes, is reasonably capable of being associated with, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with a particular individual or household. It includes online identifiers such as IP addresses, device identifiers, advertising identifiers and cookie identifiers. It does not include information that has been deidentified or aggregated so that it can no longer reasonably be linked to you. Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, Personal Information has the same meaning as “personal data” under those laws.

2. Personal Information we collect

We collect Personal Information in three ways: you give it to us, it is collected automatically when you use the Services, and we sometimes receive it from third parties. You do not have to provide Personal Information, but some features (such as creating an account or making a purchase) will not work without it. If you enter information about other people, Section 2A also applies.

Information you give us

  • Account information: name, email address (if you choose to provide), username, password, and profile details you choose to provide.
  • Communications: messages you send us, support requests, survey responses and feedback.
  • Content you create in an App: names, photos, notes, dates, contact details and ratings that you provide.
  • Purchase information: details of subscriptions or in-app purchases. Payments made through the Apple App Store or Google Play are processed by Apple or Google; we do not receive payment method information. The Company does not process payments directly and does not receive your payment card details.
  • Marketing preferences: whether you have agreed to receive marketing from us.

Information collected automatically

  • Device and technical information: device model, operating system and version, App version, language, time zone, IP address and approximate location derived from it.
  • Identifiers: device identifiers, push notification tokens, and, where you allow it, mobile advertising identifiers (Apple IDFA or Google Advertising ID).
  • Usage information: features used, pages and screens viewed, actions taken, session length, and the date and time of use.
  • Diagnostic information: crash reports, error logs and performance data.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: see Section 4.

Information from device permissions (if applicable)

Some App features may ask for access to your device’s camera, photos, microphone, contacts, precise location, or calendar. We only access these when you grant permission, and only for the feature you are using. You can withdraw permission at any time in your device settings. The Apps may request the following access:

AppCameraPhotosMicrophoneContactsPrecise LocationCalendar
PepperBoxYesYesNoYesNoYes
KidlattaYesYesNoNoNoNo
Kid ChartYesYesNoNoNoNo
Kid TurnsYesYesNoNoNoNo

Information from third parties

  • Sign-in providers: if you sign in with Apple, Google or another provider, we receive your name, email address (if you choose not to hide your email) and an identifier from that provider, as allowed by your settings with them.
  • App stores: Apple and Google give us purchase confirmations and aggregated download and usage statistics.
  • Analytics and advertising partners: information about how you found our Apps, such as the campaign that led to an install.

Sensitive information

We do not intentionally collect sensitive information, such as health information, racial or ethnic origin, religious beliefs, biometric data, or precise geolocation, unless an App feature clearly requires it and you have given your consent.

2A. Information you provide about other people

Some Apps let you enter Personal Information about people other than yourself. For example:

  • a parent or legal guardian entering information about their children;
  • a teacher, coach or caregiver entering information about students or others in their care;
  • an individual entering information about friends, family members, partners, romantic partners, people they are dating, or potential partners or dating prospects.

In this policy, information you enter about another person is “Third-Party Information”, and the person it is about is a “Third Party”.

How we handle Third-Party Information

We use Third-Party Information only to provide the App features you use. We protect it, keep it and share it in the same way as other Personal Information under this policy. We do not use it to send marketing to the Third Party, and we do not sell it.

Third Parties have the same privacy rights as our users. A Third Party can contact us (Section 13) to ask whether we hold information about them, and to access, correct or delete it, and we will respond as required by applicable law. Where the law requires it, we will take reasonable steps to tell a Third Party that we hold information about them, unless an exception applies, by email or in-app notice if we hold their contact details.

Information about children and students

Only a parent or legal guardian, or a person legally authorized by them, may enter information about a child. A teacher or other education professional may enter information about students only where authorized by their school or institution and permitted by applicable student privacy laws and that institution’s policies. We do not knowingly collect Personal Information directly from children (see Section 9).

Sensitive information about others

Do not enter sensitive information about a Third Party, such as their health, sexual orientation or sex life, religious beliefs, racial or ethnic origin, or precise location, unless the Third Party has given you their explicit consent or the law otherwise permits it.

Prohibited uses

You may not use the Apps to enter information about another person in order to harass, stalk, monitor, track, intimidate, threaten, defame, disparage, embarrass or expose them, or to enter information you know or suspect is false or was obtained unlawfully. We may remove Third-Party Information, and suspend or close accounts, where we believe these rules have been broken.

Your responsibility

You are solely responsible for the Third-Party Information you enter, including verifying that it is accurate. We do not verify Third-Party Information and are not responsible for its accuracy, completeness or lawfulness. Before you enter Third-Party Information, you must have the legal right, and all consents, authorizations and notices required by applicable law, to provide it to us and for us to process it as described in this policy. If the Third Party is a child, you must be the child’s parent or legal guardian, or are otherwise legally authorized to provide it. If the Third Party is a student, you must comply with the relevant school’s or institution’s applicable student privacy policies. You must ensure Third Party Information is accurate, complete and current to the best of your knowledge, and you will promptly correct or delete it if it changes or becomes inaccurate; and is not false, misleading, defamatory, disparaging, harassing or threatening, and does not violate any law or any person’s rights of privacy, publicity or other rights. Our Terms of Use contain your representations, warranties, and indemnification obligations relating to Third-Party Information and apply whenever you enter it.

3. How we use Personal Information

We use Personal Information only for the purposes below. For EEA and UK residents only, the right-hand column gives the legal basis we rely on under the GDPR and UK GDPR.

We will not use your Personal Information for a new purpose that is incompatible with the purposes above without telling you and, where required, asking for your consent.

4. Cookies, SDKs and similar technologies

Our Website does not use cookies. Our Apps use software development kits (SDKs) and device identifiers that work in a similar way, which store or read small pieces of information on your browser or device. Our Apps use the following cookies:

Managing your choices

  • Website: As our Website does not use cookies we do not provide a cookie banner when you visit the Website.
  • Apps: use the privacy settings in your device settings for each App.
  • Do Not Track: Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” (DNT) setting. Because there is no common industry standard for how to respond to DNT signals, our Services do not currently respond to them. California law requires us to disclose this.

Our Apps use the following third-party SDKs and cookie providers:

5. How we share Personal Information

We share Personal Information only as described below.

  • Service providers: companies that process data on our behalf and under our instructions, such as cloud hosting, customer support, email delivery, analytics and crash reporting. They are contractually required to protect it and may not use it for their own purposes.
  • Platform providers: Apple, Google and sign-in providers, as needed to deliver Apps, process purchases and authenticate you. Their own privacy policies apply to what they collect.
  • Advertising and measurement partners (if applicable): where you have consented or not opted out, as described in Section 4.
  • Corporate transactions: a buyer, successor or adviser in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of assets. We will tell you if your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
  • Legal and safety reasons: courts, regulators, law enforcement or other parties where we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, or is needed to protect the rights, property or safety of our users, the public or us.
  • With your direction: other parties when you ask us to, for example when you share content from an App.

We do not sell Personal Information for money. Some US state laws treat certain advertising and analytics disclosures as a “sale” or “sharing” even when no money changes hands. To the extent our use of advertising technologies counts as a sale or sharing under those laws, you can opt out as described in Section 11.

6. International transfers

We are based in the United States, and our service providers store and process Personal Information in the United States. Your Personal Information may therefore be transferred to, and processed in, countries other than the one you live in, which may have different data protection laws. When we transfer Personal Information, we protect it in accordance with applicable law. You can ask us for more information about the safeguards we use by contacting us (Section 13).

7. How long we keep Personal Information

We keep Personal Information only as long as we need it for the purposes in Section 3, then delete or anonymize it. We may keep information longer where the law requires it, or to resolve disputes or enforce our agreements.

8. How we protect Personal Information

As we value your trust in providing us your Personal Information, we are striving to use commercially acceptable means of protecting it. But remember that no method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure and reliable, and we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

9. Children’s Privacy, Child Safety, and Child Safety Standards

Our family Apps (Kidlatta, Kid Chart, Kid Turns, Kid Banking, Kid Bank and similar Apps) are designed for and directed to parents, legal guardians, teachers and other adult caregivers, who use them to manage information about children in their care. They are not directed to children, and children may not create accounts or enter information. We do not knowingly collect Personal Information directly from children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK). Information about children is entered by a parent, guardian or other authorized adult as described in Section 2A.

PepperBox is intended for users aged 13 and older (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, which is up to 16 in the EEA and UK). Users under 18 should have permission from a parent or guardian. PepperBox is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect Personal Information from them.

If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal information, you can delete your data or account at any time through the apps, or contact us at info@appsyouneed.com and we will delete it.

The Company has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE), including child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Our full published standards, how to report a concern, and how we respond are in our Terms of Use. You can also report a concern at any time at info@appsyouneed.com.

10. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you have some or all of the rights below. Section 11 explains which rights apply in each region.

  • Access: ask whether we hold Personal Information about you and get a copy.
  • Correction: ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Deletion: ask us to delete your information. You can also delete your account directly in each App under Settings > Account > Delete account.
  • Portability: receive information you gave us in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Objection and restriction: object to, or ask us to limit, certain processing, including processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Opt out of marketing: use the unsubscribe link in any email, or turn off push notifications in your device settings.
  • Opt out of sale, sharing and targeted advertising: see Section 11.
  • Withdraw consent: where we rely on consent, withdraw it at any time.
  • Complain: lodge a complaint with us or with your local privacy regulator (listed in Section 11).

How to make a request

You can make a request by emailing info@appsyouneed.com. We will verify your identity before acting, usually by confirming details linked to your account. You can use an authorized agent where the law allows; we may ask for proof that the agent is authorized.

We respond within the time required by law.
